Despite challenges with language, work and money, Folola now values living in NZ, for education.
Arriving from Rwanda, Joy overcame initial fear and isolation by being intentional about her new life.
Today, Parisa is connected and confident in public, but life in NZ didn’t start so smoothly.
In the spirit of working in a strengths-based way, these videos celebrate a few of the many success stories of migrant and refugee background women who have overcome social isolation to develop meaningful social connections and a sense of belonging and purpose here in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Just as each woman is different, each of these stories is different too. There are, however, some common themes. Watch and see!
Thank you to Joy, Lena, Parisa and Folola for sharing some of your insights and to the very able and creative Nando Azevedo for filming, editing and finishing the videos.
