After her daughter moved here from Mumbai 18 years ago, Lena visited New Zealand regularly, loving the natural beauty and lifestyle of Auckland.
Moving permanently, with her husband, however, was a different story. Two very lonely years passed before she started to feel happy and settled. For her, getting her Super Gold Card, working out public transport and joining groups run by Shanti Niwas were instrumental in restoring connection and self-worth. Lena also says that she had to “unlearn a few of the practices I had done in India”.
She says, “…if this is the land of our choice, the earlier we learn what the adjustments are, the better for everyone really. Do a little self-introspection and see whether you can do some adjustments somewhere and things will be good.”
